Gloria Jean Williams

Gloria Jean Williams, age 94, peacefully transitioned on March 4, 2026, the same day she celebrated her birthday. She was born on March 4, 1932, in Dermott, Arkansas, to the late Dock and Reola Wilson. Gloria was the last surviving sibling of her family. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister: Sam Edward Wilson Sr., James Dock Wilson, Woodrow Wilson, and Vera Mae Murphy. In the 1950s, Gloria left Dermott, Arkansas, and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. During that time, she also briefly lived in Chicago, Illinois, with her then-husband before returning to Indianapolis in the 1960s, where she made her home and proudly became an Indiana Hoosier. Gloria was a hardworking and dedicated woman who spent many years working at Chrysler and later as a housekeeper at North Willow. She carried that same dedication into every part of her life, especially when it came to her family. She was the beloved mother of Joe Allen Wilson, Barbara A. Wilson, Brenda C. Bethea, Donna E. Arrington (Tony), and Mildred Jean Thomas (Richard), her youngest daughter, who preceded her in death. Gloria’s legacy continues through her 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and her cherished cat, Goldie; who was a special companion to her. In addition, she leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Gloria was known as the matriarch of the family, being the eldest and someone many looked to for wisdom, support, and guidance. She was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, always stepping in with love and encouragement. Her home was known for its open door and warm hospitality, welcoming family and visitors who stopped by or came into town. She loved cooking and sharing meals with family and guests, believing that no one should ever leave her home hungry. Gloria also enjoyed watching her favorite Western shows, soap operas, and reality television, often sharing lively commentary that sparked laughter throughout the room. Gloria was a lifelong fan of the Indiana Pacers and loved a good debate about basketball and other topics. Known affectionately as the family’s great debater, she always had a strong opinion, but it was always shared with humor and laughter. Springtime was especially dear to her heart. Gloria loved sitting on the porch gardening, planting flowers, and growing food, patiently waiting to enjoy the fruits of her labor when the blooming season arrived. She took great pride in watching her garden flourish. Gloria loved traveling with family, especially visiting the beach. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting high on the balcony overlooking the ocean, quietly watching the dolphins swim across the water. Gloria’s favorite color was pink, a reflection of the warmth, love, and joy she brought to those around her. As the beloved matriarch of the family, Gloria Jean Williams leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, laughter, and devotion to family that will live on through the many lives she touched. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
