Thurl Bernard McIntyre, affectionately known as “Mackie,” was the cherished youngest child and only son of the late Thurl Bernard McIntyre Sr. and Rachel Hill McIntyre. Born on November 24, 1957, in the vibrant city of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thurl often referred to himself as a “Mommy’s boy,” a reflection of the deep bond he shared with his mother. Thurl’s educational journey began in the Indianapolis Public School System, where he attended several schools including #23, #26, and Arsenal Technical High School. Known for his infectious humor and welcoming personality, he left a lasting impression on both his peers and teachers. In pursuit of his academic goals, he later attained his General Equivalency Diploma, proving his resilience and commitment to self- improvement. Throughout his life, Thurl was lovingly nicknamed “Mackie,” “Mack,” or “Mack Attack” by family and friends, and he embodied these titles with a unique charm that resonated with those around him. His impact is measured not merely in timelines or accolades, but in the joy, warmth, and love he brought into the lives of others. From a young age, Thurl demonstrated a strong faith and was baptized at Westside Missionary Baptist Church, where the seeds of his spiritual journey were sown. This faith guided him throughout his life and was a source of comfort and strength. Mackie was well-known in his community not just for his kind heart but also his impeccable sense of style, which included smooth outfits, Kango hats, a love for gold jewelry, diamonds, and an admiration for his Cadillacs. His professionalism shone through during his thirty-plus years of dedicated service at IU Health Methodist, where he worked diligently as a Floor Technician, earning the respect of his colleagues and the community alike. In addition to his professional life, Thurl embraced the simple pleasures that life had to offer. He found joy in listening to music, passionately followed various sports, enjoyed card games with friends, and relished the thrill of scratching off his lottery tickets. Above all else, his greatest joy came from being a loving “PaPa” to his grandchildren, fostering bonds that were rich with laughter and love. Mackie’s spirit was a radiant light, his humor a constant source of joy, and his presence left an unforgettable mark on everyone he encountered. He had a profound understanding of the importance of family and the often-overlooked gift of self-love, teaching those around him to prioritize what truly matters. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Thurl and Rachel McIntyre, his paternal grandparents William and Blondell McIntyre, maternal grandparents Emmitt and Georgia Hill, his beloved sisters, Beverly Brown and Vivian Whitfield, and nephew, Johnnie. Thurl leaves behind a legacy enriched by love and memories that will be cherished for years to come. He is survived by his beloved children: Thurl Bernard (Trina) McIntyre III, Tiffany Jordan, Marcia Allen, and bonus daughter Lakisha (Michael) Williams. His grandchildren—De’Jah, De’Len, and De’Jon McIntyre, Makayla and Mackenzie Jordan, Jwaun and J’ana Allen, Halei Thomas, and Michael Williams Jr.—along with great- grandchildren Chance and Perry Teague III, hold a special place in his enduring legacy. Thurl's sisters, Valeria Parker and Stephanie Baxter, and brother-in-love Vivian Whitfield, as well as good friends Mark McMichel and Anthony Scott, are left to carry on his spirit. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will continue to hold him dear in their hearts.
